| Kurdish & Kurdic By H.M. Hubey ... who are the Kurds? Why are there no "Kurdic peoples" and "Kurdish peoples", and why no "Arabic" vs "Arabish", when everyone seems to be hellbent on writing about the difference between "Turkish" and "Turkic" languages and peoples? Caught up in all the hoopla about Ocalan is about 300 years of history which the journalists and TV newspersons cannot and do not tell. It started with the defeat of the Ottoman Empire by the European powers Austria, Poland, Russia, and Venice in the 15 years following the Ottoman failure in the siege of Vienna in 1683. First, it is obvious and true that "Kurds do not have a homeland." But who are the Kurds? Why are there no "Kurdic peoples" and "Kurdish peoples", and why no "Arabic" vs "Arabish", when everyone seems to be hellbent on writing about the difference between "Turkish" and "Turkic" languages and peoples? The news stories make it as if Turkey is the only empire in the region. If we look at the facts regarding Kurds and the region, in about the only scholarly work about Kurds (McDowell, p. 2) we see " In Iran, the Kurds found themselves in a more complex situation; for the Iranian state was barely 50% Persian, the balance being a mosaic of Azari Turk, Kurd, Arab, Baluch, Lur, Turkoman and other smaller groups." Everyone by now must know about the "Azari Turk" but who are the Turkomans? Why aren't they all lumped together as "Turks" when all the Kurdic speakers are lumped together as "Kurds" and all the Arabic speakers are lumped together as "Arabs". Why aren't all the Turkic speakers also lumped together as "Turks"? FONT=Tahoma][/font] ... H.M. Hubey Associate Professor, Montclair State University See website http://www.turcoman.btinternet.co.uk/kurdish-versus-kurdic.htm for more information. The text above is taken from:http://www.turksforum.nl/informatie/...turkije_08.htm Yes that is an interesting discussion. I will be waiting for, not waiting for but looking forward to your comments on the isue! Why do English language speakers and some environments differentitate between Turkish and Turkic and why not between Arabic and Arabish or Kurdic and Kurdish. Neither all Arabic speakers speak the same language nor Kurdish speakers do. Why not? If we can bring comprehensible and coherent explanation to this, we can understand the West's poitic motivation better concerning separating Turks and uniting Kurds. il_bilge Tarafından düzenlenmiştir.
